LF4 polymeroxid®
LOW FRICTION

Polymeroxid® LF4 is a hard anodizing process that is most cross-linked with monomers.

General information

LOW FRICTION hard anodising - is a unique composition of a hard oxide matrix into which a polymer is cross-linked in very high density. This solution makes it possible to achieve very high friction resistance and sliding properties. The process can replace applications where PTFE is applied to aluminium.

Features

In this new process, friction properties and surface smoothness are optimised, while surface hardness is slightly reduced compared to the xH4® process.

In this case, the all-new polymeroxid® matrix takes full advantage of its task. LF4 is the process of choice when it comes to sliding applications where a low initial starting torque is crucial. Polymeroxid®-LF4 creates the smoothest hard anodised surfaces on the market.

Properties of the coating

Fully cross-linked polymer coating throughout the thickness section.

The completely new polymeroxid®-matrix - the smoothest coating in terms of HC process on the market:

  • very high abrasion resistance
  • high hardness of approx. 450 HV 0, 25 (7075-T6)
  • reduction of the slip-stick effect
  • best friction properties
  • protection against cold welding
  • extremely good properties adhesion to other top-coatings
  • very high flexural strength

Materials

AlZnMgCu1.5 (7075) and AlMgSi0.5/1.0 (6060/6082) alloys recommended.

Hardness of the coating

The effective hardness of the coating depends very much on the aluminium alloy used. In the case of LF4, the process achieves a hardness in the region of 400 MHV 0.026 (7076 T6) and above.

Dimensional accuracy

Polymeroxid®-LF4 coating builds up outside the base material approximately 40% of the total coating thickness (see photo).

Example: 25µm of hard anode means a growth of approx. 10µm (approx. 20µm on diameter). The optimum thickness of this coating is in the 20 - 25 micron range. Type 30.
