Hard anodising is an advanced industrial process that aims to give products increased durability, wear resistance and an aesthetic appearance. This fascinating process involves the controlled growth of hard and durable coatings on the metal surface through an electrochemical reaction.

Step 1: Surface preparation
The process of hard anodising begins with careful cleaning and preparation of the product surface. All dirt, grease and contaminated layers are removed to ensure maximum efficiency of the anodising process.

Step 2: Immersion in electrolyte
Next, the prepared article is immersed in an electrolyte - a chemical solution that acts as an anode in the electrochemical reaction. In this step, a controlled amount of current is passed through the article and the electrolyte, initiating the anodising process.

Step 3: Growth of the Hard Coating
As the current flows, microscopic porous structures begin to form on the surface of the article. These pores are where the anodic hard coating forms. The growth of this coating is controlled by both the duration of the process and the electrochemical conditions, resulting in a coating with well-defined properties.

Step 4: Dyeing and Sealing (Optional)
Once the desired thickness of the anodic coating has been achieved, it is possible to colour the product by dipping it in aniline dye. This step allows a variety of coating colours to be obtained. Then, in order to increase resistance and durability, the coating is sealed by closing the pores with suitable agents.

Step 5: Finishing
The final step involves thoroughly cleaning the product of any residual dyes and sealants and giving it a final appearance. Finishing may include polishing, matting or other processes related to aesthetics and finishing.
